Put matching quantities beside each other
Write down the required volume and ask what each supplier will deliver and bill. Order rounding and minimum charges can make those numbers different. Compare the same requested mixture and placement arrangement; a price difference between different specifications needs explanation.
For an illustrative 3-yard order, Quote A is $150 per yard plus $200 confirmed fees, totaling $650. Quote B is $170 per yard plus $50 confirmed fees, totaling $560. The higher unit rate produces the lower known bill in this example.
If either offer leaves a charge unanswered, mark its subtotal incomplete. Treating a blank as zero creates a false saving.
Use an inclusion checklist for contractors
Ask each contractor to state whether the price includes:
- Removal and disposal of the existing surface.
- Excavation, base material and preparation.
- Forms, specified reinforcement and concrete supply.
- Delivery access, pumping or other placement equipment.
- Placing, finishing, joints and curing arrangements.
- Cleanup, permits where applicable, tax and any exclusions.
Keep dimensions and finish descriptions beside this checklist. “Patio installation” alone leaves too much room for different assumptions. Have uncertain site conditions and any resulting change-order process explained before accepting the work.
Make the decision from confirmed details
A supplier comparison helps organize cost, but it does not verify workmanship or project suitability. Check the actual contractor, written terms, payment schedule and scope directly. Ask who is responsible for the design and for any inspection required for your project.
The quote comparison calculator compares entered prices without presenting them as market averages. Use the slab budget to separate materials from installed tasks. Save the date of each quote and ask how long it remains valid. A missing scope item is a question to resolve before treating either offer as complete.
