Brick Calculator

Calculate an area-based brick order from actual face dimensions, mortar joints and openings.

Your project

Project sketchFrom your inputs
20 ft8 ft
Schematic, not to scale. Drawn pieces do not represent the purchase count.
Decimal feet or feet and inches, e.g. 10' 6".
Editable example; confirm the chosen brick.
Editable planning allowance; actual waste varies.

How the calculation works

Bricks = net face area ÷ [(brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)]. Add allowance and round up.

A worked example

At 7⅝ × 2¼ in actual face and a ⅜ in joint, each module is 8 × 2⅝ in. A 100 ft² area needs about 685.7 bricks before allowance.

What to check before using the result

  • Running-bond corners, returns and specials are not a complete cut schedule.
  • Actual bricks differ; use your manufacturer dimensions.
